FAQ

Q: May a credit counselor advise a client on whether or when to file bankruptcy?
A: No. The decision on whether or when to file bankruptcy can only be made by the
consumer and his/her attorney. Advice on the timing and necessity (or lack thereof)
of a bankruptcy may constitute legal advice which could be deemed to be the unauthorized
practice of law and be actionable by State authorities.

Q: What determines an individuals ability to pay??
A: Ability to pay must be determined on a case-by-case basis.
In general a person with income less than 150% of the US poverty level will qualify for a waiver.

Q: Can you fail this Session?
A: No. Everyone who completes the session will receive a Certificate of Completion.
There is no graded exam.

Q: When can I take my course?
A: At any time. You can take the course at any time.

A: You or anyone else may pay by credit card or by money order payable to

Q: What information will I need to provide to register for the course?

  • Your full name
  • The district in which you reside (a list is provided at time of registration)
  • Your address
  • Your email (you do not have to have an e-mail address to access our course)
  • Your phone number
  • Information regarding sources of income, debt payments/balances and assets.
  • THAT'S ALL, NO ADVANCED PREPARATION IS NEEDED

Q: Do a husband and wife need separate financial counseling sessions?
A: A husband and wife may take the internet course at the same time or may elect to take separate courses.
However, the follow-up must be done separately if completed through a chat session or together if completed via telephone session.

Q:. How long is my session?
A: The average length of a session is 60-75 minutes including the follow-up session.
Your session may be shorter or longer depending on your particular situation.
A minimum of 60 minutes must be spent on the internet portion of the course.

Q:. Does my certificate have an expiration date?
A: The certificate is valid for 180 days from your course completion date (date of follow-up session).
